SHOWCASE

This page is designed to display examples of my graduate course work from Michigan State.  I completed the Master's of Art in Education Program (MAED).  I have separated my coursework into categories of focus that I completed such as leadership, faces of diversity, and reflection.  These three categories  I feel highlight my aspects of learning.  Each coursed allowed me to gain or revision the knowledge I already had.

Race and ethnicity are always a topic that people tend to avoid if possible. When doing a study about embracing the diversity of our society it can really make you reflect and think about yourself. Being force to write a racial autobiography was something that I found difficult at first but then grew to appreciate by the end.

Studying and learning about education at a deeper level requires you think about what it all truly means.  When completing my philosophy of education it really made me think about what the purpose is of education.

When starting out in a leadership course you begin by studying other leaders.  You analyze their practices to help you  figure out what kind of leader you want to become.  Click here to find out what kind of leader you are.

In educational inquiry I became aware of one very important way of inquiry: self-reflection. When studying Vivian Paley through a variety of books, I learned the significance and the benefits for both teacher and students in the classroom.

In a course where I studied different types of leaders, and leadership styles I got to analyze and determine what I think effective versus what I would fix it.  Each case we studied provided a differnt type of leadership and problem. Here is an example of a case study we completed on a district. Big Mt School District

Looking at race and diversity through a clearer lens, has been an eye opening experience.  This diversity course has allowed me to Look at life differently and learning about how I can better help my students by having a better understanding of them.

After finalizing what the purpose of education is within K-12, it then became important to establish what my purpose will be as a leader.  My leadership philosophy is slightly different from my educational philosophy due to the aspect of being a leader of the organization and not within the organization.
